Pregnancy & Bedrest

Depending on the nature (i.e. twins, triplets, etc.) of your pregnancy, bedrest may be prescribed for a future date. It’s a good idea to prepare yourself as best possible for your stay on bedrest. That are several things that can help ease the stress of bedrest.
- Tell people that you are going on bedrest and explain to them exactly what this entails and the reasons behind it.
- Gather and organize projects for you to do while you are in bed. Place all the needed things for that project in a separate box. Some bedrest activities may include: organizing photo albums, going through old file folders, sorting paperwork, clipping and organizing coupons, cleaning out a junk drawer, organizing family financials, clipping out fun family.child actitivities from magazines and organizing them in a folder for future reference. It’s important to have everything very accessible.
- Make decisions about baby furniture, baby supplies, the baby’s room. You will not be able to see in person once you are on bedrest (only in pictures).
- Accept help from others. The restrictions of bedrest significantly limit your activities. You will need help (i.e. with cleaning, errand running, help with your other children, meal preparation, and just someone for company).
- If family finances permit, hire a house cleaning service. It can drive you crazy looking at things taht need to be cleaned and not be able to do anything about it.
- Organize play dates at your house for any other children you may have.
Bedrest can be a very stressful time. A little preparation can help ease the transition.
